My Plight To Find The Funny In The Frustrating And Save My Sanity

It all started as a joke on facebook. Quite honestly, as a way to poke fun at my friends who were “psyched to have the laundry folded” or “feeling fab after running 25 miles without breaking a sweat”. I couldn’t help myself, so I responded by posting the nonsense my kids were saying around the kitchen table because I feel no sense of satisfaction in folding laundry and I only feel badly about myself knowing there’s no way in hell I could run 25 miles.

As I continued to make my ridiculous posts on facebook something unexpected began to happen. I became a spectator in my own life. Instead of being overwhelmed by the daily frustrations of motherhood, I started to see the humor in it again…it was a refreshing change.

 Now I look for it in the midst of the ugliness, the frustrating and the insanity that can be parenting. I look for it…the funnies. Instead of getting pulled in, I try to stand back, watch, listen and wait. It never fails that something is said, even briefly, that makes me smile and reminds me why I started this crazy journey as a mother in the first place.
