I Think I’d Like To Swim With The Fishes

“Mom, when I’m older I might wanna be one of those scuba diving dudes.       If I can make it all the way there and back, with enough air in my tank, I think I’ll probably dive down to the Titanic. Ya know, just swim around the ship and check things out. I bet I could find some really cool stuff to bring back. What do ya think about that?” Jay-8

Well, barring the physical impossibilities, and the illegality of removing items from the wreck, I’ll just applaud his enthusiasm. Then again, you might want to wait until winter, chuck him into a nearby pond, and explain that diving as a career finds you in colder water far more often! (There is also the possible discouragement of “shrinkage” – though that can wait ’til his teens. 😉 )

Here in Brooklyn, “swimming with the fishes” has a whole different meaning. He might want to reconsider.

  3. I think that sounds pretty cool.
Any chance he might bring me back some china other shiny Titanicy stuff?

Well, I hope he brings back that amazing necklace from the movie. Oh wait . . . it wasn’t really. Shucks.

  5. Tony McGurk says:

He can bring me back a nice juicy lobster while he’s down there.

Again I can’t say how much Jay is my favorite. I love what he says, how he words things, and has great ambitions, even if some are impossible. A lot of kids now are all and I mean all about video games. Loved this post. :0)

  7. I know the comment was cute, but I couldn’t helping thinking “This lil kid knows about the Titanic?” I think it’s wonderful that he has a curiosity for history. And…you might have another Jacques Cousteau on your hands!
