About

It all started as a joke on Facebook. Quite honestly, as a way to poke fun at my friends who were “psyched to have the laundry folded” or “feeling fab after running 25 miles without breaking a sweat.” I couldn’t help myself, so I responded by posting the nonsense my kids were saying around the kitchen table because I feel no sense of satisfaction in folding laundry and I only feel badly about myself knowing there’s no way in hell I could run 25 miles.

As I continued to make my ridiculous posts on Facebook, something unexpected began to happen. I became a spectator in my own life. Instead of being overwhelmed by the daily frustrations of motherhood, I started to see the humor in it again…it was a refreshing change.

Now, I look for it in the midst of the ugliness, the frustrating and the insanity that can be parenting. I look for it…the funnies. Instead of getting pulled in, I try to stand back, watch, listen and wait. It never fails that something is said, even briefly, that makes me smile and reminds me why I started this crazy journey as a mother in the first place.

Come and join me in my plight. My plight to find the funny in the frustrating and save my sanity.

  1. There’s some really beautiful about this! It made me realize that that “plight to find the funny in the frustrating and save my sanity” is what I’ve begun to do with my own stuff. Looking forward to reading.

I found you through Life in the Boomer Lane and I’m so glad I did. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone in sometimes wondering, what in the world is my daughter talking about, and how am I supposed to answer that.

I too found you through Life in the Boomer Lane and am glad I did. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a kid in the house, but I remember all the loony, zany things that were asked. I look forward to reading more here and thanks for swinging by my blog earlier.

I hope you had an awesome Mother’s Day!

I love the way you put it- “a spectator in my own life”… I like to think of myself as one of those too.. only without quite as many witty and insightful takeaways 😉

I love your blog! My girlfriends were the ones that told me to do a blog, after silly posts on facebook about the kids–just like you! I totally get the “Going balls to the wall on the elliptical at the gym and feeling AWESOME!” comments on facebook that seem intended to make everyone else feel like total lazy slackers, and the “off to Publix to get groceries.” inanity. It at least made me feel like I was entertaining someone by posting the latest craziness going on at my house. You’re so right about forcing yourself to slow down and see the humor in parenting our kids–I think it helps us to remember more colorfully the chapter that is our children before they become adults. I look forward to everything you write!

    • Thank you, Jen! I’m so happy to hear you can relate. Just wait, in a few more years you’ll be reading, “We knew our sweet little Suzy was super smart, but all A’s again this year!?! She never fails to dazzle us! We’re thinking she’ll be a shoe-in for Mensa.” After you vomit a little in your mouth, you’ll respond by posting some crazy-ass thing your boys just did and I’ll LOVE ya for it! I really appreciate your kind words, they made me smile.

I have seen you adding comments to The Refrigerator Magnate’s Space and so out of interest, and of course being a tad nosy I decided to call into your neighbourhood to see what your world of blogging is all about, and now that I am here I think that I shall return and venture through some of your postings, in the meantime (if my Gravatar doesn’t give a dark and wicked impression :() you can call into My Gothic Realm and hedge past the Skeletons and Werewolves…

Well just for a little peep maybe? Don’t worry it is a friendly Space, but one that has a few Ghouls, Vampires and Zombies running around in it, all expertly tamed of course 🙂

Have a fun weekend my friend…

    • Welcome, Androgoth! Glad you popped over to say hello.
Don’t worry, Vampires and Zombies won’t keep me away. It’s the whining, crying children that scare the hell out of me and make me seek shelter under my bed!
      Happy weekend to you, too!

Thank you for calling by Nancy it is very nice to see you in My Gothic Realm and I just wanted to call back and say this before I leave for the morning, well it is rather late here in the United Kingdom but as I am a night owl and often burning the candle at both ends it is quite normal, perhaps it is the Vampire in me? 🙂 lol

        Have a delightful rest of

Or are our kids just that good-naturedly funny? It still amazes me what comes out of their mouth. Your dialogs are hilarious. Thanks for sharing! I hafta go…mine just told me its time for the party and she brought my ‘dress-up’ (a pink tu-tu)

    • Thanks so much for stopping by and welcome, Our Life in 3D!
I think all kids are born naturally funny. It’s just that sometimes the world prevents them from staying that way.
I hope you wore that tu-tu like a real life ballerina! 🙂

I still don’t get the whole Klout thing. Should I bother with it?
