So, You’d Like To See Me Naked?

Have you noticed that WordPress has decided to post your Subscriber Stats on your Home page? You haven’t? Well, go take a look. There they are, right above your cute little Subscription button…your subsciber count. See it? Great. Now tell me…what do you think?

Call me crazy, but I thought it was a little like posting someone’s measurements under their Gravatar.

Bonnie Bookworm

The Bashful Blogger

36-24-36

Why just assume that Bonnie Bookworm the Bashful Blogger wants her measurements posted under her Gravatar? Maybe she’d prefer her perfect measurements private. Or maybe, Bonnie isn’t the perfect 36-24-36. Maybe instead, she’s a 36-36-36 or a 24-36-24…and she likes it that way, but would still prefer not to shout it from the roof tops.

If you’d like to keep your measurements private, head over to your Dashboard…click Widgets…go into your Primary Widgets Area…click on Subscriptions…clear the check mark out of the box that shows your number of subscriptions. Finito!

Now, let’s see how many views I get based on the title of this post.

Yes, I am curious how many search terms lead to your post. No doubt the terms will be good enough for a post of their own – authored by you, of course.
What stats? You mean word count, likes, links, etc?

  2. You’re right! Now I totally feel like I earned a D+ in wood shop and it was announced over the loudspeaker at school! Yikes! Thanks for the warning… and good luck, because I am absolutely sure that you are about to have a GIGANTIC jump in page views, when the search engines start churning. 🙂

Thanks a lot, you just made me have to clean off my screen after spurting. (Tea. TEA, you perverts!) I do have to side with you on this, though I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s quality, not quantity, right? 😉
And excuse my absolutely sophomoric sense of dirty humour, but you title about being naked, and BlackHoleUnderMyCouch mentions wood shop. Naked. Wood. (Snicker!) 😀

    • I agree, John! It is absolutely quality, not quantity. You can pretty much guess that the “quantity” of “quality” viewers I’ve gotten from this post title are not the “quality” I’m looking for in readers. You should see my Search Engine Terms…it looks like a crime scene. 😉

Okay, okay, so we’re all “quality” readers here. So, don’t we deserve a reward, as in a literal representation of your post title? 😉

  5. Interesting… I don’t normally wind up here from Google.
    Seriously, though… if you’ll just give me a minute… I have a dashboard to ‘attend to’…

Bwahaha! I clearly have a short attention span, because I wondered, “What would her title have to do with anything?” I then reread it and went, “Oh, right! I was intrigued by that!” (That being said, I highly doubted actual nudity was involved. More like some quirky reflections. :p)

Just as soon as I post this comment, I’m following your removal advice. I’d much rather talk about my dimensions than my subscriber count, oddly!

Okay. I never realized that. Now that it’s been pointed out, I guess I don’t care. Must be a guy thing–girl thing. Size, (or numbers,) doesn’t matter, does it?

  9. Thanks, girl! I noticed that on someone’s blog yesterday, and thought that was something they had chosen to advertise. It never occurred to me to check my own! FYI, I kind of have a similar title for my blog later today, but I swear I planned it before I saw yours!

Who knows, maybe you’ll want to advertise your numbers after today!

    • You are so welcome! I was feeling a little exposed, hence the title…I couldn’t help myself. 😉 I wanted to give all my bloggy friends a heads-up so they could decide for themselves if they wanted to have their stats posted.

Loved your spelling bee post. You always give me a good laugh.

  10. It took me awhile to find it. I am gratified that the number of bloggers I have exceeds the number of people in my family. Had it been reversed, I would be totally bummed out.

I’m not sure how I feel about that. After seeing your post, I instantly clicked on all that I follow, looking at their stats and noticing how much higher theirs are to mine. It’s silly, but I still can’t help myself. Now it feels like competition!

I think I will remove my numbers so I’m not focused on how many on following my posts. Darn you for pointing this out…I might not have noticed it for awhile. hahahha!

    • I agree, Sandy. I felt a little exposed. When I noticed, I thought a post was necessary to keep my blogging buddies in the loop so they could decide for themselves if they’d like to keep their subscriber stats posted. When their staring you in the face like that, it’s hard not to feel like it’s a competition…and it shouldn’t be. 🙂

  16. I’m curious about your number of visits for this post, too! Every time I go for provocative or clever, I get fewer visits, much less reaction. What’s up with that! Hope the opposite happens for you. 🙂

I wondered about those stats under my subscription button, but I couldn’t bring myself to change them yet. I kept wondering if WordPress did research on this, or was just trying to continue ticking us off the way they began in August by screwing up our subscriptions to other blogs. I decided to give it a week or so and see if anything good happens. Not that I would be able to attribute it to this one detail. 😕 I did feel like they got personal there. I’d love to sit in on one of their meetings, to see how they come up with this stuff, and then decide not to give us a heads up beforehand!

    • Sparks in Shadow, so far it’s 500+. Apparently, if you write a post that includes the words Katy Perry and Naked your views will go through the roof…see Scholar Mel’s comment below. Even crazier, tagging the Elephant Man will give you 2,000 views a day…see Cooper’s comment below. I highly doubt you’d consider any of those views quality readers. 😉

Thanks so much for popping over and for taking the time to comment. I hope you’ll keep reading. 🙂

I tend to treat my stats as “proprietary.” I don’t want the whole world knowing what a loser I am, ya know? Oops. That came out a bit wrong, since that is the exact purpose of my blog. 🙂

I noticed the subscriber count thing, too! One day it was just there. I look on your page, however, and I don’t see it. Perhaps it is only visible to the blog owner? Or maybe they got enough blowback and changed their minds? Or maybe I can’t see. 🙂

    • Hey there, Shout from the abyss! Thanks for popping in and for taking the time to comment. Depending upon the WordPress theme you used to build your blog determined where your subscriber stats showed. Mine, as well as many fellow bloggers, were right out there in the open. I chose to remove mine. I felt too exposed. 😉

I’d never have noticed that if you hadn’t mentioned it.Thanks so much for letting us know – wordpress should have done that!! Drives me crazy when sites make changes that they don’t announce unless you visit their update posts regularly, and who has time for that?! I’ve unchecked mine as well.
